Republicans Hate Marriage

Many Republicans vow to preserve family values. This is odd because so many of them don't care for the sanctity of marriage. Here's one:

Bob Barr

Bob Barr

Georgia Congressman Bob Barr was the first lawmaker in either chamber to call for President Clinton's resignation after the Lewinsky scandal broke, and was one of the House prosecutors who pressed the impeachment case in the Senate. He argued on the House floor that "the flames of hedonism, the flames of narcissism, the flames of self-centered morality are licking at the very foundation of our society." Meanwhile, investigators for Larry Flynt, who had offered money to anyone who could provide evidence that a prominent Republican had engaged in an extramarital affair, said that Barr was "guilty of king-size hypocrisy." According to a sworn affidavit by Barr's ex-wife Gail, Barr (a longtime outspoken opponent of abortion) had acquiesced to and paid for the termination of his then-wife's pregnancy in 1983. Barr never publicly disputed the contents of his ex-wife's affidavit. Investigators also reported that Barr invoked a legal privilege during his 1985 divorce proceeding so he could refuse to answer questions on whether he'd cheated on Gail, his second wife, with Jeri Dobbins, who is now his third.
